The “BE” Mission: Be a force for change by taking positive actions to help improve the quality of life for all and protect our planet for future generations by empowering the youth of the world as a voice for change, and by encouraging and supporting socially responsible leaders.

Beneficiaries

Developing Options is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to community development and the cultural and economic revitalization of communities worldwide. Founded in 2004 by world peacemaker Eugene “Big U” Henley with the vision of offering services that assist people who are experiencing violence, are at risk of homelessness and have limited resources ‐to create an environment that strengthens and develops communities by promoting integrated approaches that provide food, decent housing, a suitable and sustainable living environment and expand economic opportunities for low and moderate income persons.

Developing Options provides advocacy, education, resources, training and development for underprivileged communities worldwide and has been highly successful in developing a variety of programs to accomplish its vision; including community health services, food drives, job training and placement, sporting leagues, computer and online services, banking and finance training and a plethora of other community services. While offering a multi‐faced approach to asset‐based community development, Developing Options programming falls within three main headings – Youth Development, Crime (Gang) Prevention and Community Development ‐ all aimed at investing in the long‐term betterment of underserved communities worldwide.

With corporate headquarters located in Los Angeles, California, Developing Options and Big U are recognized by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for significantly reducing gang violence in South Los Angeles under The G.R.Y.D. (Gang Reduction Youth Development) Program and recently recording breaking numbers in third quarter of 2009, reporting no gang shootings for over one entire month within the 77th police precinct. Many community leaders, celebrities and business owners worldwide seek Big U’s support in bringing peace to violent crime areas. His hands on approach creates an opening to penetrate neighborhoods and get related with the people, homeowners and neighborhood groups to uncover their needs and concerns to really make a difference for people in under served areas. Developing Options believes that an area’s residents, their talents and aspirations are community’s greatest assets, and when properly harnessed provides people with the power and skills they need to effect change in their own communities.
